You will find a variety of youth and teen programs at the Wauconda Park District. Whether you are interested in creative expression, art, magic, drawing, and movement classes or just having fun with friends in a weekly class, we have something for you. V.I.P. Volunteer Incentive Program

Attention all middle through high school students! Are you looking at getting involved in your community? Well we have a great way for you to do it.  All you have to do is donate your time to help out your park district and community by volunteering at any of our special events. You can volunteer for all events or just some of them. Perfect for those who enjoy helping or may need credit for honor societies or church obligations. Kids vs. Cops Dodgeball

Kids vs. Cops Basketball

10 (and in fourth grade) -13 years

Wauconda’s finest law enforcement officers have challenged any and all middle schoolers to a game of pick-up basketball. Winners of these games will have bragging rights as the best hoops players in Wauconda. So grab a friend or two and head over after school to Osage Park. Pre-registration not required.

Paintball with the Police

10-14 years

So you don’t have school and you’re looking for something to do. Come challenge some of Wauconda’s finest police officers in a game of paintball. Be ready to run as this is ultimate experience in Paintball excitement….semi-automatic mayhem.  The paintball fields are set up with a mix of man-made objects and allow players to utilize objects found in the real world. These objects and elements include ruins, abandoned cars, walls, barrels and various hiding places. Wear comfortable long sleeved shirt, pants and gym shoes. Bring a sack lunch and water bottle. Program fee includes equipment rental, 500+ paintballs and transportation. At the end of the day we will go back to the park district for a pizza party. Please note: there is an additional waiver required for this trip. Paintball course has not been determined at the time of printing this brochure. Notification will be available upon registration.

Safe Sitter

11-14 years

Our babysitting program, sponsored by Safe Sitter, is sure to get your teen on the right track to become a babysitter. Participants will learn how to care for a choking infant or child, basic first aid, personal safety for the babysitter, injury prevention, how to care for children, preventing problem behavior, behavior management, ethics and babysitting as a business. Program includes a babysitting manual and a completion card. Participants should bring a baby-sized doll and lunch to all classes. Participants must attend both classes to become certified.

Fright Night

Get ready for a haunted house tour that will scare even the bravest of teens! Hop on our bus as we chauffeur you to 3 of the area’s best haunted attractions. Our trip will begin at Skokie’s Scream Scene, then off to St. Thecla’s Hair Razor Haunted Scenes and finally to St. Pascal’s The Catacombs Haunted House all in one night! We will stop for dinner at a local restaurant on our tour, so be sure to bring a little extra money for dinner or a snack. Price includes VIP Triple Fright Ticket admission at all 3 houses (a $50 value on its own), includes a fast pass at each location-no waiting in those long lines! Transportation and supervision included as well. Please register at least 1 week in advance to meet the trip minimum.

Let’s Get Messy

Friday Fun Camp

Not quite ready for multi-day camp? Give this one day a week camp a try.  Bring your lunch and we’ll start each session with a picnic and outdoor playtime.  Each week we will have a different summertime theme including stories, songs, crafts and lots of fun. Sand Art

Its summer time and it’s time to hang out in the sun and create some sand masterpieces. Painting and Clay Studio

Picasso’s painting and clay studio is designed to allow students to move from playful artistic exploration to skilled development. Magic Class

Children are guaranteed to have a great time as they learn a collection of fascinating and mesmerizing tricks from the “Magic Team of Gary Kantor”!   Amaze family and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind-reading, and more.  While the tricks may appear difficult, you’ll discover that they are quick to learn and easy to perform.  All materials are provided, and each child receives a magic kit to take home.  Children are grouped by age and always learn tricks that are age-appropriate.  Additionally, you can sign up for this class again and again since brand new tricks are always taught at each session!  Instructor:  Magic Team of Gary Kantor.

Summer Spa Night

Grab a friend, dress in your PJ’s and come join us for a night of pampering on a nice summer evening.We will start with a fruit facial and soak our skin. We will do a pedicure section with scrub, lotion and finish with a fresh nail polish application. Our manicures will consist of buffing, lotion bar and fresh polish application and nail art. A foot/nail brush is provided to use and take home. At the end of our pampering, we will make a light snack.

A Networked Adventure

TechStars grants you access to a PROPRIETARY Minecraft world you can’t get on your own. Minecraft

Coding and Programming

The next level of our Minecraft program is here. Are you tired of having to mine the boring stuff? Did you know you can create and program Minecraft ROBOTS to do your mining for you? Learn how to code using the Minecraft Computer Craft Mod and put those robots to work. Working with a partner you’ll start out programming with a graphical interface and then evolve to text-based coding as you learn to program with Lua. Soon you’ll be able to focus on mining what YOU want.

Junior Inventor’s Workshop

We have opened up the workshop for a week of fun, creativity, and of course — engineering! Over the course of a week, students will invent new machines and explore creative design solutions using the Engineering Design Process. Discover how a wind-up toy works and design your own drawing robot inside the Engineering For Kids Inventor’s Workshop.

Apprentice / Master How Amusing

8-13 years

Ah, the thrill of an amusement park…zipping around on racecars, zooming through the loops of a rollercoaster, trying your luck at a floating boat game, and enjoying a cold, refreshing ice cream treat at the end of a hot, sticky day. Can’t get better than that! During this camp, students will divide into competitive theme park teams. They will challenge other teams in specific engineering-related contests with the goal of creating the most fantastic and thrilling theme park experience. At the end of the week, only one team will emerge as the winner and will be granted the prestigious honor of creating the world’s next great amusement park for children ages 0-99 to enjoy for summers to come!
