The Wauconda Park District offers a wide variety of athletics for youth ages 2-15 years. These instructional programs are great for beginners and kids looking to advance their understanding of the fundamentals of sports. These classes are taught by Park District Staff or Contractual Groups such as: 5 Star Sports, Inc.; Golf Farm; Skills First Soccer and many others. Athletics include but are not limited to: Baseball, T-Ball, Lacrosse, Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Hockey, Golf, Soccer, Tennis, and Karate.

This program is designed for the beginning player. Your child will learn the fundamentals in a non-competitive atmosphere. Each child must provide his/her own glove.

T-Ball and Baseball Leagues

5-10 years
Volunteer coaches will help teach beginning players the basics of the game including hitting, fielding, base running, and team play in a non-competitive atmosphere. The league will consist of two weeks of practices followed by four weeks of games. Team pictures will be on Saturday, July 14th starting at 10:00 am. Your coach will give specific picture time to you.  League picnic for players and their families will be held on August 18th starting at noon. Parents are required to complete a Parent’s Education Test before their child begins. Additional information is available at time of registration.

Volunteer coaches will be needed to make these leagues successful. Volunteers who Head Coach will receive a credit for the league as long as they coach for the entire season and attend all meetings and training’s.

Friendship Requests
1-Siblings will be placed on the same team, unless otherwise requested.
2-Volunteer coaches will have their children placed on the team they coach.
3-Friends must request each other for the request to be honored.

Fall Youth Baseball Leagues

7-10 years

The next Juan Uribe or Aramis Ramirez can get their baseball start here. Designed for the beginning player, young athletes will be exposed to both the fundamentals of baseball and good sportsmanship. The focus of the program will be not only on having fun, but improved knowledge and play. The schedule will consist of two weeks of practice and four weeks of games. Last couple of games the kids will play “Under the Lights” at our softball fields. Team shirts and hats will be handed out and there is also an end of the season get-together.

Volunteer coaches will be needed to make these leagues successful. Volunteers who Head Coach will receive a credit for the league as long as they coach for the entire season and attend all meetings and trainings.

5 Star Family Olympics

2-3 years with parent
Join in the fun with 5 Star Sports, Inc. as they help children discover the wonderful world of sports. This class will be in an organized environment that will help the kids to learn, listen, follow directions, share, and get along with other kids while they play soccer, basketball, baseball, football, and floor hockey. Parent/guardian must accompany child.

Pee Wee Sportsters Camp

Children are introduced to the fundamentals of sports such as soccer, t-ball, and football games in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere. This class teaches your child in a camp structure while also allowing some free-play to help them explore. Group games and activities will be used to develop teamwork and good sportsmanship. This is a great way to expose your child to sports without making a long-term commitment. All participants will receive a t-shirt.

3-8 graders
This volleyball program is equipped to improve your child’s skill level at every major area of the game. Bumping, setting, and serving will be covered. Several different strategies will also be taught that are used in all levels of play. Many games will also be introduced to not only help you improve but also to bring out your joy for the game.

Fishing Pole Lending Program

All ages
Hey Kids and Adults! Looking to spend a few hours fishing on our pier but don’t have any equipment? We have the answer! The Wauconda Park District has poles, reels, bobbers, and some hooks that we can lend you for your outing.  This service is free and poles will be available to lend during normal business hours, April through November. All we need is a driver’s license or a credit card for deposit. Kids under 10 need an adult with them. If you would like to borrow overnight, please contact Mark Ftacek, at (847) 526-3610, to make arrangements. Bait and fishing licenses are not available for purchase.  The Wauconda Park District and the Department of Natural Resources sponsor this program.

After School Karate Program

6-10 years
Join us for a fun after school activity. This class incorporates a combination of exercises, forms, and self-defense techniques learned from the ancient arts of Karate and Kung Fu. This class is taught with a focus on building strength, balance, body awareness, and overall fitness. This program is an extension of our own Isshinryu Karate program.

5 Star Youth Golf  Lessons

4-10 years
Let 5 Star Sports, Inc. guide your little “Tour Pro” to learn the fundamentals of golf in a fun atmosphere. Many different games will be played to increase not only their skill level, but their interest level as well. This is a great starting class for your child to learn golf.

Youth Golf Lessons

8-14 years
A PGA Golf Professional will teach you the fundamentals of golf in a great environment. You will learn the proper grip, stance, short game, full swing, and putting. All lessons will be held at the Golf Farm located at 2100 North Route 12, one mile north of Bonner Road in Wauconda. The Golf Farm will furnish equipment if needed.

5 Star Flag Football

Football is America’s most watched game and 5 Star Sports, Inc. wants your children to come and experience the action first hand. Kids will learn catching, throwing, kicking, blocking, and playing defense. All kids receive an award.

BYS Flag Football

5-7 years
Bulldog Youth Sports (BYS) Flag Football is for boys and girls ages 5 to 7.  The focus of our program is for kids to learn the fundamentals of football and have fun playing a team sport with their friends. Registration cost includes 1-2 practices per week, 9 games (played on Saturdays), and a Wauconda football jersey.  Our season starts July 30th and runs through October. Registration Cost $125 and $50 fundraising fee (can be earned back), which includes a jersey. Practices run 1 or 2 days per week, days and time TBD when season starts July 30. Games will be on Saturdays and the time TBD once season starts. Home games are in Wauconda and away games are in Fox Lake, Round Lake, or Lake Villa. 5 Star Youth Tennis

5-15 years
Tennis is a wonderful sport that can be taught to all ages. Starting your young ones at an early age will help give them the edge down the road. 5 Star Sports, Inc. teaches tennis in an easy way through a fun environment that will help your child learn to serve, use their forehand and backhand, while learning the rules of the game and maintaining a safe environment.  Tennis rackets are required.

Kids Isshinryu Karate

This is an introduction to karate for youngsters presented by the Wauconda Isshinryu Karate Club. This class stresses the basics of martial arts including self-defense, balance, agility, conditioning, safety awareness, and much more. Instruction is self-paced with a strong emphasis on FUN! Skills First Soccer classes are a great way to start off your little one. These classes teach fundamental soccer skills through a series of fun games such as Sponge Bob and Scooby Doo. Skills taught will include dribbling, turning, stopping the ball, running with the ball, passing, and shooting. Players will have so much fun they won’t even realize they are learning! Skills First Soccer Camp

6-9 years
This is a week long camp that aims to build skill, confidence, and character in each of its participants. Our 1000 touch promise ensures that each player is exposed to at least 1000 touches per day. Players will be taught multiple techniques to help develop close control play and confidence on the ball. Passing, receiving, and shooting will also be covered. Look forward to fun daily themes such as ‘soak the coach day’ and ‘Wacky Wednesday.’ Players will get to show off the skills at the end of each day in our Skills First Super Cup which runs all week long. Each participant receives a free soccer ball.

Gymnastics

Beginning Gymnastics

18 months-4 years
This class will begin with an obstacle course filled with age appropriate equipment.  We will then move to our circle time, at which time we will practice our stretches and incorporate our parachute activities.  Finally, the coaches will add new stations to our obstacle course to end our class with more gymnastics challenges.  Tunneling, rolling, jumping, balancing, and swinging are all part of our weekly lessons.

Basic Tumbling

5-9 years
This class is open to boys and girls who would like to learn tumbling skills.  Included in the lessons will be jumps, rolls, handstands, cartwheels, round offs, backbends, walkovers, and handsprings.   We will begin each lesson with flexibility, and end it with strength training exercises.  The equipment used will include mats, tumbling wedges and training barrels.
