Beach passes are currently on sale March 28, 2012. The Beach will open to the public on June 2, 2012. Proof of residency will be required at the time of registration. Please note: There will be a $3 fee to replace lost beach passes.

Seniors age 55 and over and children age 3 and under are admitted free. A family pass includes up to five immediate family members living at the same address. Any additional members will be an additional $10 per person.

Note: Due to inclement weather or low attendance, the beach may close or close earlier than scheduled. Please call (847) 526-4605 for updates.

Summer Beach Fiesta

Join us for a sunny Saturday afternoon of entertainment, goofy games, sand castle building and conclude the day with Root Beer Floats.  Everyone is welcome so grab your lawn chairs and some sunscreen and join us. All participants will be entered into a door prize drawing.

Final Beach Bash

All ages
Bring the entire family to our traditional cookout finale of our beach season. Get ready for some wacky games, prizes, raffles, entertainment by a DJ, and much more. All participants will be entered into a drawing for a 2013 beach pass. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.

Marina

The Wauconda Park District has boat slips and launch passes for your boating needs. Open registration for resident and non-residents will be on a first come, first served basis. Registration began in January for this year’s season. Balance due at time of registration.

Proof of residency, current driver’s license, license plate numbers for both car and trailer, and current watercraft registration are required at the time of registration. All issued cards must be listed in the same name as the person registering for a slip or launch pass in order to qualify for resident rates, no exceptions. Keys will not be issued unless all required information is presented. Seniors age 55 and over will receive 50% off of launch rates only.

Sailing

Basic Keelboat Sailing

This foundational sailing course will teach students to safely sail a keelboat of approximately 20 feet in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. The 12-hour training course it taught on Bangs Lake typically in 3-4 hour sessions on weekday, night, or weekends. It includes both classroom and on the water instruction using text, video in an ASA and US Coastguard approved curriculum. The ASA (American Sailing Association) is an internationally recognized educational system giving students the opportunity to become certified in a number of sailing and navigational courses. Sea Safaris Sailing School offers ASA courses in Basic Keelboat, Basic Coast Cruising, Bareboat Chartering, Coastal Navigation, Advanced Coastal Cruising and Celestial Navigation. The advanced courses normally are taught on Lake Michigan using American Sailing Association approved training curriculum.

Note: The cost of the course includes all classroom materials, instruction and certified test. Enrollment in the course also includes a 1-year membership in the American Sailing Association, a 1-year subscription to Sailing magazine and ASA member’s quarterly Sailing Journal. Kids for Sail

8-16 years

Interested in teaching your children how to sail with expert sailors without joining a yacht club?  Looking for a great life skill to learn over the summer?  Sea Safaris Sailing School offers sailing skills for youth.  Looking for a way to experience basic sailing with your child or grandchild?  We also offer a program where the parent or grandparent can learn or learn and be ASA101 certified.

Learning Format

Just for Kids Format
Children 10-16 will learn key sailing skills, parts of the boat, basic knots, right of way and boat safety.  At the conclusion they will receive a basic test.  Taught in 4 – 2 hour segments youth sailors will learn and practice key sailing skills preparing them for more advanced sailing in the future or learning to crew for adult family sailors.

Kids and Parent(s) Format (w/o ASA Certification)
This is a popular way to learn together creating a life-time skill and a life-long memory!  This format is taught with parents and their children 8-16 years old in a 4 – 2 hour segments.

Kids with Parent(s) Format
(w/ ASA 101 Parent Certification)
This is a popular way for an adult to receive their ASA101 Certification and take their kids along as well.  In this format the class would extend to 4 – 3 hour segments.
