Director of Parks and Recreation Letter
Dear Residents,On September 13th our Board of Commissioner adopted a new Strategic Plan for 2011-14. The Board and Staff have been working on the development of this plan for the past 8 months with the guidance of Executive Service Corp of Chicago. During this process we reviewed and updated our mission statement which will now read “We enrich lives in our community by providing quality recreational and leisure time opportunities”. This statement outlines why our agency exists. At this time, a vision statement was also created. This statement is future oriented and inspires commitment. It reads “We will be the recognized leader of parks and recreation services for the communities we serve”.
Core Values were established for our District which you will begin to see us emphasizing more and more throughout District programs and operations. The values are; • Integrity • Service • Teamwork • Commitment
Five Strategic Initiatives were developed to guide our organization for the next 3-5 years. They are; • Board and Staff Engagement – Strategic leadership and clearly defined roles for Board and staff. • Financial Plan – Development of comprehensive plan to address management of current resources, future capital while generating new sources of revenue growth. • Marketing/Communication Plan – To generate increased program participation and optimize current and new revenue opportunities. • Facilities – Development of a long term plan for renovating, upgrading and expanding aging parks and facilities. • Programs and Services – Develop service standards and investigate opportunities to partner/ collaborate with other agencies. The Board and staff look forwarded to accomplishing these initiatives and continuing to offer the best possible recreational services to our residents. Visit our website to view our Strategic Plan in its entirety. I encourage you to look through our brochure to check out the many programs and events our staff has planned for you in the upcoming months. If you have any questions or concerns regarding District operations, please feel free to contact me.
In Play, Nancy M. Burton Director of Parks & Recreation
