At the Wauconda Park District, our group fitness classes combine cardio, strength, and flexibility, to suit every interest and fitness level.

Meet Our Yoga Instructors

Renee Chwaszczewski

Renee received her Hatha Yoga 200 hour certification from the Lotus Yoga Center in 2005, and is currently enrolled in a 500 hour certification program.  Renee is a RYT 200 with the Yoga Alliance, and a board member of the Himalayan Yoga & Meditiation Center in Palatine.  In addition to yoga, Renee has studied several alternative healing modalities.  Renee beleves in empowering her students, so they have the tools to embrace their yoga journey.

Barbara Spietz

Barbara is an initiate of Sir Swami Rama, founder of the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy. She earned a B.S. in Physical Education and Health and M.S in Adapted Physical Education. Her post graduate work is in Psychology, Nutrition, Addictions and RET and EFT therapy. Barbara is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 500 level and is certified in Yoga and Physical Management. She has been teaching for 30 + years and has never lost her passion for helping others learn.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga has many benefits that can help reduce the increasing stress ailments that accompany our everyday lives, from stimulating the immune system and boosting self-esteem to improving strength and flexibility. Yoga works to bring the body into alignment creating balance both physically and mentally. This class is a great way to relieve stress from your busy day. Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes, bring a small pillow, and beach towel or yoga mat to use in class. Classes available morning and midday.

Half and Half- A.M.

Half the class will focus on using a variety of equipment to tone and sculpt while the other half of the class will include a variety of different cardio workouts to enhance your endurance. Get that metabolism burning for the rest of your day. Maddy has over 17 years of experience as a group fitness instructor with our district. She will get you feeling and looking better.

Practical Living Yoga

Combining the 5,000 year-old tradition of Hatha Yoga with contemporary exercise physiology provides an excellent base to build a yoga practice. Barbara Spietz blends Eastern philosophy with Western ‘know how’ for a practical approach to wellness. Enhance mind/body awareness by increasing strength, flexibility, balance, proper breathing and stress reduction. Enjoy the healing, noncompetitive and relaxing class environment. Wear comfortable attire and bring a mat.

Barb is an internationally recognized master teacher who has conducted teacher-training workshops throughout India and the U.S. She was featured in Yoga Chicago Magazine and is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 500-hour level. No Class 6/21.

Muscle Fusion and Confusion

This class will emphasize the core through cardio, strengthening and stabilization exercises. Pilates, kick boxing and boot camp formats will be utilized. We are going to mix it up and break those plateaus. No class 4/7 and 5/26.

Core Pole

Strengthen and increase your muscle endurance and learn a new way to workout. This class will combine step cardio and muscular endurance training using resistance tubing with the Core Pole. This class can be prorated for once per week.

Jazzercise

13 years and up
The original dance exercise phenomenon! Each 60-minute workout blends dance and muscle toning movements choreographed to today’s hottest music, including Top 40, jazz, country, funk, and classics. Our instructors make all the routines fun and easy-to-follow. Every class includes a gentle warm-up, 30-minute aerobic workout, muscle toning and strengthening segment with weights, and a stretch finale. All fitness levels welcome! No class on 4/8 and 5/28.

Pilates

Learn the fundamental moves that will work your core muscles. This form of exercise strengthens and firms muscles giving them flexibility while you maintain and stabilize your core. This will have you feeling stronger and leaner. Stability balls, weighted balls, dyna-bands, and more will be used to enhance the power of each move. No class on 4/7 and 5/26.

Weight Loss Challenge

This 10-week program provides: Proper nutrition coaching, meal replacement options, group support, and encouragement to exercise, metabolism and body composition test

The WLC is a 10-week program meeting together weekly for an hour to learn about proper nutrition, how to improve eating habits and find out exactly how many calories a day your body burns. This information will teach how to lose weight and keep it off. The goal is to have participants living healthy with vim, vigor, and vitality for the rest of their lives. Because of all the helpful information attendance at the weekly meetings is a KEY factor in ensuring success. Each week participants will weigh-in and consult with the coaches, who help along the way, offering various meal replacement options to help reach ideal weight and body composition. The program encourages participants to eat a healthy level of protein and calories each day and teaches the benefits of good nutrition. Topics include: protein, carbohydrates, water and digestion, vitamins, dining out, exercise, sugar, healthy oils and more.

Each person will receive personalized coaching. Winner can win prize money paid out by check after week 10. Specific rules will be in place to keep everyone consistent. Previous contests ended with an average weight loss of over 19 pounds and over 10 inches per person! Prize money is limited to $25 per participant of the enrollment fees. First place winner will receive 50% of the prize money up to a maximum of $250. Second place winner will receive 25% of the prize money. Third place winner will receive 15% of the prize money. No refund of prize money will be allowed after the first class.
