At the Wauconda Park District, our group fitness classes combine cardio, strength, and flexibility, to suit every interest and fitness level.

Meet Our Yoga Instructors

Renee Chwaszczewski

Renee received her Hatha Yoga 200 hour certification from the Lotus Yoga Center in 2005, and is currently enrolled in a 500 hour certification program.  Renee is a RYT 200 with the Yoga Alliance, and a board member of the Himalayan Yoga & Meditiation Center in Palatine.  In addition to yoga, Renee has studied several alternative healing modalities.  Renee beleves in empowering her students, so they have the tools to embrace their yoga journey.

Barbara Spietz

Barbara is an initiate of Sir Swami Rama, founder of the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy. She earned a B.S. in Physical Education and Health and M.S in Adapted Physical Education. Her post graduate work is in Psychology, Nutrition, Addictions and RET and EFT therapy. Barbara is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 500 level and is certified in Yoga and Physical Management. She has been teaching for 30 + years and has never lost her passion for helping others learn.

Hatha Yoga

14 years and up
Hatha Yoga has many benefits that can help reduce the increasing stress ailments that accompany our everyday lives, from stimulating the immune system and boosting self-esteem to improving strength and flexibility. Yoga works to bring the body into alignment creating balance both physically and mentally. This class is a great way to relieve stress from your busy day. Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes, bring a small pillow, and beach towel or yoga mat to use in class. Classes available morning and midday. No class 6/24, 7/1, and 7/22.

Practical Living Yoga

14 years+
Combining the 5,000 year-old tradition of Hatha Yoga with contemporary exercise physiology provides an excellent base to build a yoga practice.  Barbara Spietz blends Eastern philosophy with Western ‘know how’ for a practical approach to wellness.  Enhance mind/body awareness by increasing strength, flexibility, balance, proper breathing and stress reduction.  Enjoy the healing, noncompetitive and relaxing class environment.  Wear comfortable attire and bring a mat.  Barb is an internationally recognized master teacher who has conducted teacher training workshops throughout India and the U.S.  She was featured in Yoga Chicago Magazine and is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 500-hour level.  No class 6/21.

Yoga in the Park

Pilates

Learn the fundamental moves that will work your core muscles. This form of exercise strengthens and firms muscles giving them flexibility while you maintain and stabilize your core. This will have you feeling stronger and leaner. Stability balls, weighted balls, dyna-bands, and more will be used to enhance the power of each move. No class 7/21 and 9/1.

Half and Half- A.M.

with A.C.E. certified instructor, Maddy
14 years+
An ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor will teach proper body form and positioning for effective and safe muscle strengthening and toning while improving overall balance and flexibility for 30 minutes. The other 30 minutes will be spent doing easy movements to elevate the cardiovascular system to wake you up and get your day started off on the right foot. Exercises will be accompanied by a variety of music from the 40’s, 50’s, & 60’s era along with Broadway Show Tunes. No class 7/2 and 7/4.

Half and Half- P.M.

Join us for a class that has it all!  Half the class will focus on using a variety of equipment to tone and sculpt.  While the other half of the class will include a variety of different cardio workouts such as floor, step and kick boxing to enhance your endurance.  No class 7/2 and 9/3.

Jazzercise

The original dance exercise phenomenon! Each 60-minute workout blends dance and muscle toning movements choreographed to today’s hottest music, including Top 40, jazz, country, funk, and classics. Our instructors make all the routines fun and easy-to-follow. Every class includes a gentle warm-up, 30-minute aerobic workout, muscle toning and strengthening segment with weights, and a stretch finale. All fitness levels welcome! No class 6/21 (pm only), 6/24, 7/4, 7/21, 7/22, and 9/3.

Muscle Fusion and Confusion

This class will emphasize the core through cardio, strengthening and stabilization exercises.  Pilates, kick boxing, and boot camp formats will be utilized.  We are going to mix it up and break those plateaus. No class 7/21 and 9/1.
